NeighBoards

We really like game night.

NeighBoards started in Jacob & Oona's Hell's Kitchen apartment.

Jacob has loved games for as long as he can remember. Oona got pulled into the hobby after the two started dating, and somewhere along the way game night became one of their regular date nights.

They loved having an excuse to put away their phones, sit across a table from each other, try something new, and get a little competitive.

Eventually they started wondering:

Why should you have to buy every game you want to try?

So they're starting NeighBoards with the games already sitting on their own shelves — and hoping to make it easier for more New Yorkers to have a great game night.

We're starting with our shelf.

For now, Jacob & Oona personally handle every NeighBoards rental in Hell's Kitchen. Eventually, we hope NeighBoards can connect great game collections across the neighborhood.

Meet the people behind the shelf.

Jacob

The game enthusiast.

Jacob has been playing games since he was a kid. He even placed third in the state in chess in first grade. He's also the person most responsible for turning “maybe we should get a board game” into an actual collection.

Jacob's favorites

  • Watergate
  • Chess
  • The Castles of Burgundy

Oona

The convert.

Oona got into board games through Jacob and quickly developed opinions of her own. Game night is now a regular part of their date-night rotation — and part of the reason NeighBoards exists.

Oona's favorites

  • Carcassonne
  • Codenames
  • Blokus
